Frequently asked questions about the PRO EM-1® Probiotic product.

1. What is a probiotic?
The word “probiotic” comes from Greek meaning “for life.” A probiotic can be through of as the opposite of an antibiotic. The theory behind the use of probiotics is for the beneficial microorganisms to out-compete pathogens and establish balance in the intestinal system.

2. Where is PRO EM-1® made?
PROEM-1 Probiotic is currently only manufactured by EMRO USA Effective Microorganisms at their facility in Tucson, Arizona.

3. What is in PRO EM-1®
Like EM-1®, PRO EM-1® utilizes the same technology developed by Dr. Teruo Higa and was made under his direction. ProEM-1® contains lactic acid bacteria, yeast, and phototrophic bacteria (individual microbes are listed on the lable), aloe, Certified Organic Molasses, and Honey. EM-1® Is not made for human consumption.

4. Is PRO EM-1® different than EM-1®?
Yes. PRO EM-1® contains aloe and honey and a few different strains of microbes than EM-1® and is produced in a completely different manner than EM-1®. PRO EM-1® also contains 3 times the populations of phototrophic bacteria than EM-1®. You cannot activate PRO EM-1® nor would you use it on crops because it is more expensive.

5. How often should I take PRO EM-1®?
Ideally, you should take a probiotic every day to maintain high populations of beneficial microbes in your body. Many physicians recommend that people take a round of probiotics after taking antibiotics however, many are accepting the idea that the levels of chlorine in our drinking water are high enough to kill beneficial microbes in out systems as well.

6. How much should I take?
As stated on the label, a healthy individual should take three teaspoons per day. Individuals with ulcers should take small amounts, such as drops, as product has a low pH of 3.5. Individuals with dietary disorders should start with one to two drops a day until tolerance builds, usually within 10-14 days. Always consult a physician before starting any program affecting your health.

7. Can I mix PRO EM-1® with juice, or something, it doesn’t taste too good?
Yes. Just don’t mix it with hot liquids like coffee or tea. The heat will kill some of the microbes. We suggest you try lemonade, orange juice, apple juice.

8. Should I refrigerate PRO EM-1®?
Opposed to the majority of probiotics on the market, PRO EM-1® does not need to be refrigerated. You CAN refrigerate it, but it is not required. DO NOT FREEZE IT.

9. There is white stuff floating on top. Does this mean it is bad?
No. PROEM-1 is alive. What you are seeing is some of the yeast growing on the surface. The yeast is using the oxygen in the bottle to grow. This is perfectly natural.

10. There is some sedimentation on the bottom of the bottle. Is this OK? Can I drink it? Should I shake before using?
This too is natural and nothing to worry about. The PRO EM-1® is fine. You can drink it. You may shake before using. Sometimes pressure is built up by shaking and can cause leaking. Release the cap slowly to avoid this, as one would when opening a soda bottle.

11. How many colony-forming units are there per cc/ml?
EMRO USA is not guaranteeing the cfu/cc or ml. This is based on the 20 plus years of research with EM-1® that demonstrates the need to have a certain number of cfu/cc are not as important as the combination of the three groups of microbes in the culture.

12. Are any of the ingredients in PRO EM-1® genetically modified?
No. Although PRO EM-1® is not yet USDA Organic, there are no GMO ingredients. EMRO will not use GMO ingredients in their cultures.

13. Is PROEM-1 FDA approved?
No. According to the regulations for Dietary Supplements, the approval of the FDA is not required. PROEM-1 is FDA compliant.
