  • Instead of emulsifying Fats Oils and Grease (FOG), as enzyme products and surfactants do, EM•1® will digest them, eliminating them from the system. During the natural fermentation process, over 100 different enzymes are produced by the microbes in EM•1®. Since there is no freeze drying or pasteurization of the EM•1®, all the enzymes are left in solution and continue to be produced by the live microbes in the culture. In regards to grease digestion, the most important of these enzymes are protease and lipase. Microbes use enzymes to accelerate the breakdown of various materials. This is one of the main reasons EM•1® does such a great job at digesting grease. If you inoculate a system with only enzymes, you don't necessarily have the microbes in place that can use them and finish the process.

    How It Works

Enzymes in the EM•1®, such as protease and lipase, speed up reaction time. The live microbes in the EM•1® begin to eat the grease. The grease is then converted into H2O and CO2. This is a very simple explanation as there are several compounds in action during this process and there are a variety of FOGs that could be found in a system. However, the results are almost always the same.

    Applications

The product in injected in the influent line, injected at a rate of !:1,000 on a daily basis. A siphon/venture unit can be installed to work on a pressurized trigger or an injection pump can be installed on site. For best results, we generally do all grease applications with specially-formulated version of EM•1®.

This is evidenced by a reduction of BOD and COD, after application directly into grease traps, within the waste stream. EM•1® lowers the cloud point of the FOGs within the trap, eliminating the formation of paraffins, thereby reducing gas pockets of H2S gas formed around putrefactive food particles.

EM•1® improves efficiency of treatment plant skimmer tanks to capture a greater amount of grease.

Biological polishing of the sewer pipes occurs as the EM•1® is seeded throughout the collection system, thus reducing clogging and crowning from saponifiable or non-saponifiable grease.
